Title: Blessington
Project Type: Domestic Extension/Refurbishment
Location: Phibsboro, Dublin 7
Status: Sketch Only
The practice was commissioned to undertake a series of sketch layouts to allow the client to decide on the relative merits of differing levels of renovation and extension, and the feasibility of converting an existing living room to a bedroom.
Three options were ultimately presented to the client:
- The first utilised the existing external structure to minimise demolition work and eliminate the need for an extension, and focused primarily on interior redesign to provide living spaces better suited to their family, and a functional utility room separate to the shower room.
- The second allowed for demolition of the existing return structure to the rear to provide a bathroom, utility space, and a combined kitchen / living / dining space to allow an existing reception room to be converted to a bedroom.
- The third option broadly resembled the second, the primary distinction being that the extension housed a larger kitchen dining space, with the living space accommodated in the original house.
